In recent months, the Jeff Andrulonis-led Colonial Radio Group has successfully shifted the focus of its media operations from the Twin Tiers of Pennsylvania and Western New York to the Carolinas.
Now, one of Colonial’s three FMs in South Carolina is being spun.
The buyer? It’s a Maryland licensee whose behind an Oldies operation heard on an AM and a trio of FM translators due northeast of Baltimore.
Maryland Media One, the operator of WHGM-AM 1330 and its associated FM translators in Havre de Grace, Md., is buying WMIR-FM 93.9 in Conway, S.C., from Colonial.
WMIR is a Class A facility, marketed as a Myrtle Beach, S.C., station. It became WMIR in June 2017 and was formerly WJXY-FM.
Andrulonis purchased then-WJXY in February 2017, along with Georgetown-based WPGI-FM 93.7, formerly WXJY, from Cumulus Media.
Now, WMIR is set to become a Maryland Media One property under the direction of Steve Clendenin.
The transaction carries a $500,000 price tag, with a $75,000 deposit already made by Clendenin’s group.
The remainder will be represented via a 15-year prime-rate Promissory Note, plus 3% interest.
A FCC filing detailing the deal includes specifics about what Jeff and his wife, Christy, are including as tangible assets to be conveyed.
Also included in the deal is the assumption of a tower lease agreement with Sweet Tea Holdings LLC. Rent is currently $1519.25 per month, due to increase on Jan. 1 of each year. Clendenin is also responsible for a $600 monthly electric bill and $40 monthly internet bill.
A studio site sublease is also being executed.
Clendenin will, as such, gets “everything other than the TOC room and the side entrance area” at 4337 Big Barn Drive — primarily studio space — at an initial rate of $695 per month.
For Andrulonis, ownership of WYAY continues alongside WNMB-AM in North Myrtle Beach and WUDE-FM in Bolivia, S.C.
