A Major Maple Leaf Merger Is Put On Ice

In mid-March 2021, a multimedia company founded 59 years ago by Ted Rogers with his establishment of CHFI-FM in Toronto announced a merger with Shaw Communications in a deal valued at $20.57 billion in U.S. dollars.


The blockbuster deal, which would have combined Calgary-based Shaw and its predominantly Western Canada media assets with a North American media behemoth, is now on hold.

Why? Canada’s competition bureau put a stop to the deal.
