A Big Shuffle at Spot Radio

A fresh Media Monitors Spot Ten Radio report has arrived for the seven-day period ending June 5, and if there’s one big takeaway from the play-count look at national radio, it’s this: podcast promotion was big, and fully paid brand campaigns wasn’t.

It marks a huge change from the previous week, which included activity heading in to the Memorial Day holiday.

For the week ending May 29, The Home Depot was the big No. 1, with 72,767 detected spot plays. This week, the brand isn’t present on the Spot Ten at all.

The same can be said of the No. 2 brand by dollars, Progressive. Last week they clocked in with 57,281 spot plays. This week, they’re out of the Spot Ten, too.

As such, cash back phone app Upside (not The Upside podcast, as first reported) takes the top spot. Then, there’s the promo plugs, as promotional announcements tied to iHeartRadio that are coded as spots are No. 2 in the rankings.

Where does that leave fully paid spots? Aside from NHTSA ads, Indeed is the biggest traditional ad brand using Spot Radio for the week ending June 5.

On a positive note, audio spots from DuckDuckGo and Dairy Queen have noticeably increased in activity — and we’re hearing them here at RBR+TVBR.

That said, Mattress Firm is absent after being at No. 9 on the list last week.
