A Ponca City Operator Doubles Up

Travel to the north of Stillwater, Okla., via U.S. Highway 177, and you’ll reach Ponca City. It’s home to the Pioneer Woman Museum, and a museum devoted to regional gasoline brand Conoco.

It’s also home to the broadcasting, news, sports, and media entertainment platform operating under the Ponca Post brand. Until now, two radio brands have been under Ponca Post’s operations. Soon, two more will be added to the mix.

In a transaction submitted for Commission approval on Friday (10/8), Doxa Wave LLC, parent company of the Ponca Post, is purchasing KSOK-AM in Winfield, Ks. and KSOK-FM and FM translator K277CK in Arkansas City, Ks.

For those not familiar with the regional geography, the towns of Winfield and Arkansas City are just to the north of Ponca City, Okla., over the Kansas state line.

KSOK’s signal is city-grade over much of Ponca City, while Class D KSOK-AM’s signal easily covers Ponca City from across the state line. K277CK mainly covers Arkansas City.

At present, KSOK Radio is the “Home of the Good Guys,” with the FM offering a Country format. KSOK-AM and the translator are Adult Hits “103.3 The Mixx.”

What Doxa Wave does with the stations following their sale from Cowley County Broadcasting is not yet known, although few if any changes are anticipated.

The transaction is valued at $275,000. A $50,000 escrow payment is being held by John C. Trent.

At closing, a $175,000 cash payment will be made; $50,000 will be financed through a Promissory Note, with no interest; all payments are to be made by the end of 2022.

Doxa Wave, led by Steve Lungren, will pair the Arkansas City duo with Country KQSN-FM “104.7 The Bull” and “Sunny 1230,” WBBZ-AM.

The station has a “W” call sign as it dates to Jan. 30, 1928, prior to the FCC’s Mississippi River division between “K and “W” in a station’s call letters.
