A Class A FM serving Arizona’s second-largest market from the base of Molino Canyon below Mt. Lemmon made headlines in late August, as Lotus Communications agreed to sell its ESPN Radio affiliate to the licensee that owns that FM — a simulcast partner of Lotus’ KFFN-AM 1490 and K285DL at 104.9 MHz.
At the time, the buyer’s post-closing plans for KWCX and K285DL were to continue operating the co-channel facilities as a “combined signal,” with Robinson already drafting paperwork that would see their transfer of control upon regulatory approval to a third-party non-secular religious broadcast ministry.
That spin has just been finalized.
For $1.1 million, Relevant Radio, led by “Father Rocky” — a.k.a. Francis Hoffman — is agreeing to acquire K285DL in Tucson and KWCX-FM 104.9 in Tanque Verde, Ariz., from Todd Robinson‘s KZLZ LLC.
The sale will undoubtedly lead to the end of ESPN Radio on 104.9 MHz in the Tucson market.
George Kimble of Kozacko Media Services served as the exclusive broker in the transaction.
Paperwork is in the process of being filed with the FCC and is expected to appear on the LMS by November 1.
KWCX from 1976 through 2002 was at 98.3 MHz, and served Willcox, Ariz., with a Class C2 signal. Then came a move to 104.9 MHz, and a subsequent relocation to Tanque Verde with a downgrade in power, becoming its current Class A facility.
