Go northwest of Chicago’s Loop, and you’ll find such communities as Des Plaines, Norridge and Rosemont. Here, a 300-watt Class A FM using a tower in Schiller Park has offered listener-supported “Radio for the Jesus People” to the area.
That’s about to change, thanks to the sale of this tiny noncomm.
WTZI-FM 88.1, licensed to Rosemont, Ill., is being spun by Calvary Radio Network to RadioEd, an Illinois non-profit led by Anuraag Tripathi.
RadioEd is a newly established entity, incorporated on March 30. Its purpose: Broadcasting international news, commentary, children’s stories, and music.
To make this happen, RadioEd is spending $120,000 for the micro Class A, emblematic of the noncommercial band in the Chicago metropolitan area — a unique feature of the nation’s third-largest market.
A 10% deposit has been made to Calvary by RadioEd.
The remainder will be paid in cash at closing.
