A ‘Star’ Shines Brighter, Thanks To A School Send-Off

Trine University, a private post-secondary institution located in Angola, Ind., has become the latest school to give up its radio station and shift to internet-only delivery of its student-run radio station.

Who’s the buyer?

According to a Form 314 filing made Thursday (9/19), presently silent WEAX-FM 88.3 in Angola is being spun to Star Educational Media Network.

Led by President/CEO Melissa Montana, the Fort Wayne-based Star is the licensee of three full-power FMs in Indiana and six FM translators, with operations based out of WLAB-FM in Fort Wayne.

WLAB is branded as “Star 88.3,” and it airs a Christian AC format.

It’s a safe bet WEAX will replicate WLAB’s identity.

A $40,000 purchase price is agreed to, with a 10% escrow deposit delivered to Cary Tepper, established at EagleBank in Bethesda, Md.

There is no broker or finder associated with this transaction.

On July 15, Trine University shut down FM broadcasting of WEAX and moved delivery of the station’s programming entirely online.
