ABC was up 3% in total viewers

Building week to week in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+11%), ABC delivered its largest audience and equaled its best young adult number since mid-June with coverage of the NBA Finals – since w/o 6/17/13.  In addition, the Net grew its overall audience from the year-ago week (+9%), while retaining 100% of its Adult 18-49 number.


Monday: With The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All and Mistresses, ABC tied for the lead on Monday in Adults 18-49 (w/CBS) among the major nets, while winning the night in key Women demos (W18-49/W25-54). From 8-10pm, The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All made ABC #1 in the 2-hour slot.  In its time period, the ABC unscripted series defeated NBC’s unscripted combo (American Ninja Warrior/Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls) by 2.0 million viewers and by 27% in Adults 18-49.  The program was up week to week by 6% in Adults 18-49, matching its 2nd-highest rating this season.  During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s Mistresses grew week to week by 14% in viewers and by 20% in young adults to post 6-week highs – since 6/10/13. In addition, the ABC drama achieved series highs with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34.  On average season to date, Mistresses is improving its time period for ABC by double-digit margins in Total Viewers (+23%) and Adults 18-49 (+33%).

Tuesday: From 8-10pm, ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss gained audience for the 2nd straight week to earn its most-watched telecast in 1 month – since 6/25/13.  In addition, the show held even week to week in Adults 18-49 and grew to a season-high in Adults 25-54, scoring the series’ highest rating since last July – since 7/15/12.  Opposite stiff unscripted competition from NBC’s America’s Got Talent and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance in the 9pm hour, Extreme Weight Loss built from its first hour to its second hour in viewers (+3%) and young adults (+9%). Building on its lead-in at 10pm (+14%), ABC’s A Special Edition of 20/20 – The Royal Baby: Heir to the Throne, anchored by Barbara Walters, drew 1.2 million more viewers than NBC’s special Dateline coverage the night before in Monday’s 10pm hour.  The ABC newsmagazine delivered the Net’s strongest numbers in the hour since the NBA Finals in mid-June (on 6/18/13) among Total Viewers and key Adults (AD18-49/AD25-54).

Wednesday: During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s The Lookout grew for the 2nd straight week in Adults 18-49 (+13%) and held even in Adults 25-54, matching its best ratings in 5 and 4 weeks, respectively – since 6/19/13 and 6/26/13.

Thursday: Building on its lead-in by 1.0 million viewers at 9pm, ABC’s Motive grew its overall audience week to week and outdrew NBC’s The Winner Is by a best-yet 26%.  In addition, the ABC freshman drama held even week to week with young adults (AD18-34/AD18-49). Gaining over its lead-in, ABC’s Rookie Blue was the most-watched TV series during Thursday’s 10pm hour for the 3rd week running, increasing its advantage over NBC’s Hollywood Game Night to 1.8 million viewers (up from 1.3 million viewers the prior week). Adding audience for the 3rd week in a row, the just-renewed ABC drama earned its most-watched telecast since the end of May and surged 14% in Adults 18-34 to equal its highest rating in 1 year – since 5/30/13 and 7/26/12, respectively. On average, Rookie Blue is up 8% over the same point last summer to deliver its most-watched season in 3 years – since 2010.

Sunday: Building on its lead-in at 8pm (+38%), ABC’s season finale of Celebrity Wife Swap grew week to week by 10% in Adults 18-49. Holding all of its lead-in at 9pm, ABC’s Whodunnit? also gained 10% from the prior week in Adults 18-49 to match a best-since-debut number – since 6/23/13. During the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s repeat Castle beat out NBC’s first-run Crossing Lines for the 3rd straight week in Adults 18-49 (+20%) and also led with Adults 25-54 (+14%).
