An Amazon Fire TV OTT Plan For TEGNA

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Broadcast TV station owner TEGNA has completed an update of its stations’ over-the-top (OTT) streaming apps on Roku. But, perhaps the bigger news is that TEGNA confirms it is planning to launch OTT streaming apps for its stations on Amazon Fire TV.

It’s wasting no time ramping up the OTT platform, and hopes it will be up and running by the end of 2020. When the rollout on Amazon Fire TV is complete, TEGNA stations’ local news and other programming will be available to consumers on the two dominant OTT streaming media players, which comprise 70% of the U.S. market.

TEGNA’s OTT station apps offer streaming viewers ad-supported access to live newscasts and on-demand stories, in addition to its “VERIFY” fact-checking reports and TEGNA’s live entertainment program “Daily Blast LIVE.” Stations include KGW-8 in Portland, Ore.; WGRZ-2 in Buffalo; WTSP-10 in Tampa; and flagship WUSA-9 in Washington, D.C.

Furthermore, TEGNA’s True Crime Network app is also now available on Roku, after an initial launch on Amazon Fire TV and other platforms in August. True Crime Network features curated and original content and expands TEGNA’s offerings for news and entertainment consumers on streaming services.
