Another 90-minute 'American Idol' takes winner crown

With the AMERICAN IDOL Top 10 Girls performance show and an original TRAFFIC LIGHT, FOX won last night across the board and outperformed its nearest competitor for the night (CBS) by +103% among Adults 18-49 (6.5 vs. 3.2) and +57% in Total Viewers (18.8 vs. 12.0 Mil.).    


AMERICAN IDOL:  7.7/22, retaining 97% of last Wednesday’s 8-10pm rating and up +3% from the comparable telecast last year (vs. 7.5/20 on 3/10/10).

In Total Viewers, last night’s IDOL drew 20.6 million Total Viewers, retaining 100% of the previous Wednesday’s audience and increasing +9% versus the comparable telecast last year (vs. 20.7 Mil on 3/10/10)            

IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and beat the next highest rated program of the night  by +88% in A18-49 (7.7 vs. Modern Family’s 4.1) and +58% in Total Viewers (22.6 vs. Criminal Minds, 14.3 Mil.)  

Versus the Top 10 Boys performance show on Tuesday, last night’s AMERICAN IDOL was up +1% in A18-49 (7.7 vs. 7.6) and up +6% in Total Viewers (22.6 vs. 21.4 Mil.)                     

***So far this season with Comparable Most Current ratings AMERICAN IDOL is now retaining 94% of last year’s same telecasts in A18-49 (8.7/23 vs. 9.3/24) and 98% in Total Viewers (24.4 vs. 24.9 Mil.).***                                                                                     

TRAFFIC LIGHT:  2.8/8, up +75% vs. last week’s Tues 9:30pm telecast               TRAFFIC LIGHT posted its highest ratings ever in Adults 18-49, Total Viewers and all key demos.
                                           
In head to head competition in the 9:30p half hour TRAFFIC LIGHT outperformed ABC’s new comedy Mr. Sunshine by +17% in A18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 2.4/7).                                            
Competition

On ABC, The Middle (2.3/7, down -4%) and Better With You (1.8/5, flat) matched their lowest original ratings of the season (excluding Thanksgiving Week). Modern Family (4.1/11, flat) matched its lowest original rating of the season (excluding Thanksgiving Week), falling -13% from its prior average (4.7/13).

Week four of new comedy Mr. Sunshine (2.4/7) gained +9% from last week but dropped -17% from its prior average (2.9/8) at 930p. Closing out the night, Off The Map (1.7/5) was flat.

CBS’ Survivor: Redemption Island (3.3/9) was up +6% from last week’s series low, but after three weeks is still off to its lowest rated start ever. Criminal Minds (3.6/10) was up +13% at 9p, while at 10p Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.6/8) gained +8% week over week.

On NBC, following a repeat Minute to Win It (1.0/3) at 8p, an all-new Minute to Win It (1.0/3, flat) matched its lowest original rating ever at 9p. Closing out the night, a Law & Order: SVU repeat posted a 1.6/5.
