In February 2017, Neal Ardman, President of NIA Broadcasting, made headlines for acquiring WTMP-AM in Egypt Lake, Fla., and WTMP-FM in Dade City, Fla. — stations that had entered receivership.
Ardman received much more attention for a deal he made two weeks later that saw him team up with Bruce Maduri’s Genesis Communications in its purchase of W248CA, a translator that moved to St. Petersburg from Bradenton, Fla., and now simulcasts News/Talk WWBA-AM 820
Now, RBR+TVBR has confirmed that Maduri and Ardman have teamed together in a slightly different way: Maduri is selling a Class B AM in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market to Ardman.
In an asset purchase agreement to be filed with the Commission on Monday, Ardman’s NIA Broadcasting is acquiring WMGG-AM 1470, licensed to Egypt Lake, from Maduri’s Genesis Communications.
Ardman declined to reveal the purchase price when reached by RBR+TVBR.
Asked why he had decided to purchase the station, which has most recently been airing Spanish-language programming, Ardman noted that WMGG was “a nice fit for its portfolio” in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater market.
NIA Broadcasting also owns such stations as WYKB-FM 105.3 in Fernandina Beach, Fla., which serves the Jacksonville market.
WMGG has a 2,800-watt daytime signal from 2 towers and an 800 watt nighttime signal from three towers. Its signal is largely concentrated on Hillsborough County and central Tampa.
