As predicted: DTV gets first dibs on the Hill

Ed Markey, the indefatigable congressional watchdog over the broadcasting industry, has wasted no time getting an issue on the agenda of his Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet. And even less surprisingly, the topic is the DTV transition. The session, entitled “Status of the DTV Transition: 154 Days and Counting,” is scheduled for Tuesday, 9/16/08. Just over a week’s worth of fallout from the Wilmington NC preview of the DTV transition will be available for discussion at that time.

RBR/TVBR observation: No word yet on witnesses, but this session will be a day before the NAB Radio Show kicks off in Austin, meaning that denizens of the FCC’s 8th Floor should be able to attend if called without altering their Texas travel plans. We’ll be watching for one thing during this meeting: Whether Congress will finally spring for some additional cash to ramp up educational activities as the endgame approaches.
