With Gray Television’s merger with Raycom Media, meeting local ownership caps in Augusta, Ga., presented the C-Suite at Gray with a choice — keep CBS affiliate WRDW-12 alongside NBC low-power WAGT-CD 26, or sell WRDW in favor of Raycom’s FOX affiliate.
Gray chose to stick with CBS, keeping the affiliate alignment with long-dominant WTOC-11 in Savannah, selling the FOX station to Lockwood Broadcast Group in a deal that closed in January 2019. Now, Lockwood has a new leader at what’s known as “FOX54.”
Now in the GM slot for WFXG-TV in Augusta is Chastity Scott.
She succeeds Denise Vickers, who has accepted a role at the University of Florida’s School of Journalism.
Scott comes to Augusta from the Crescent City, where she was the Regional Team Director overseeing sales at Gray’s WVUE-8 in New Orleans and KLPC-7 in Lake Charles, La.
“I am genuinely pleased to begin this new role and grateful to Lockwood Broadcast Group
for giving me the opportunity to oversee its broadcasting and digital operations in the Augusta, Ga. market,” Scott said. “This market is incredibly special to myself and my family. We have special memories of time spent in Augusta, it is where my husband was born and raised. We have a robust extended family, that thankfully continues to flourish. For that reason, we have a personal stake in the growth of the local community and businesses here.”
Dave Hanna serves as Lockwood Broadcast Group’s President. He said, “I’m confident Chastity will bring to Augusta the same dynamism, business savvy, and community
support she’s demonstrated over her impressive career. We’re grateful to have her poised and ready to lead an already hungry team.”
WFXG is an owned-and-operated station. It owns eight other television stations.
