Austin morning radio show adds TV simulcast

Come October 5th, two radio DJs in Austin, TX will have to come to work in clean clothes every day. The “JB and Sandy in the Morning” show from Entercom’s KAMX-FM “Mix 94.7” will also air live on CBS affiliate KEYE-TV, a Four Points Media station managed by Nexstar Broadcasting.

The studio for the long-established radio show is being spruced up and cameras added so that viewers will be able to watch as JB and Sandy do their comedy bits and discuss local events, along with sidekick Alex Franco (Digitz) and team members Sara Oburn and Cassiday Proctor. KEYE morning meteorologist Kelly Slifka will also be added to the show, providing live local weather and traffic updates.

“As most of our viewers are aware, Austin has four great television news morning shows that are all essentially the same. Through KEYE’s unique partnership with Entercom, KAMX, and the JB and Sandy radio morning show, we will offer our early morning Central Texas viewers and advertisers an innovative, entertaining approach to morning television,” said Amy Villarreal, President and General Manager of KEYE.

The radio broadcast on TV is going to replace the current local morning show that KEYE airs 5-7 am weekdays. The radio show airs 6-10 am, and that schedule will continue. Beginning October 5th, “JB and Sandy in the Morning” will air live 6-7 am on television. Once KEYE has some video stored up, the 5-6 hour will feature “best of” segments from the radio show. Initially, the CBS overnight show will fill the gap. At 7:00 each day, KEYE will continue to air “The Early Show” from CBS.

Formats for TV and radio programming are obviously different. A KEYE spokesman told RBR/TVBR that the station is looking at possible “behind the scenes” segments to air on TV while the radio station is in music or long spot breaks. Various options are being considered, so the radio and TV people will be learning from each other as the project progresses.
