Bi-lingual news deal in Denver

In a joint announcement, Gannett’s KUSA-TV (NBC) and NBCUniversal’s KDEN-TV (Telemundo) said they will be sharing resources to launch two new Spanish-language newscasts in the Denver market.


Beginning the first week of October, Noticiero Telemundo Denver will debut in HD at 5:30 pm and 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday on KDEN-TV. The newscasts will be produced at the 9NEWS (KUSA) studios by Telemundo Denver’s News Team, and will utilize assets gathered by the 9NEWS team.

“This is an important announcement for the growing number of Spanish speaking residents in our viewing area. 9NEWS and Telemundo Denver KDEN-TV will give Colorado residents a new option that combines the strong journalism and newsgathering from 9NEWS with the innovative efforts of Telemundo Denver KDEN-TV,” said 9NEWS Vice-President and News Director Patti Dennis.

“Providing Spanish Language news to our local Hispanic Community in Colorado is a priority for us. Working in partnership with 9NEWS, the #1 news organization in Colorado, Telemundo Denver KDEN-TV will bring the best and most reliable news coverage in Spanish- language to Colorado,” said KDEN Station Manager Andres Chaparro.

Mark Cornetta, President and General Manager of KUSA, added his agreement: “These are the kinds of partnerships we love: the chance to team with a great organization like Telemundo in a way that really benefits the community. We are thrilled.”

NBCU acquired KDEN in 2006 from a local ownership group which had included Dish Network’s Charlie Ergen.
