The BMI Foundation is now accepting applications for its newly revamped BMI Founders Internship Program.

This year’s program is in partnership with Beasley Media Group and Hubbard Radio and is open to broadcasting students nationwide.

A four-to-six week paid internship is awarded for the best original essay response submitted to the competition. Aspiring radio newscasters, announcers, sales executives and program directors are encouraged to apply.

Internship opportunities are currently available in fifteen media markets. Applicants do not have to live in these markets in order to apply.

Once selected, the winner will choose one of the following cities for their internship:

  • Phoenix
  • Cincinnati
  • Seattle
  • Washington, D.C.
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul
  • Philadelphia
  • Charlotte
  • Boston
  • Las Vegas
  • New Jersey
  • Fayetteville, N.C.
  • Augusta, Ga.
  • Fort Myers-Naples, Fla.
  • Tampa-St. Petersburg
  • Wilmington, Del.

Established in 2015, the award commemorates the group of radio industry leaders who founded Broadcast Music, Inc. in 1939 to provide a competitive source for music licensing and an open-door policy to songwriters, composers, and publishers of all genres of music. Each year, the program recognizes a student with the potential to become an innovator in the rapidly changing field of broadcast radio.

Dan Spears, BMI’s Vice President of Industry Relations, is the Director of the BMI Founders Internship Program.

All entrants must be current students at an accredited U.S. college or university, between the ages of 17 and 24 at the time of entry, and a degree candidate in Broadcast Communications or a related major.

Applicants will be evaluated based on their essay response, letter of recommendation and academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA). Online applications must be completed and submitted no later than April 15, 2019.
