CBS Radio flips WNEW-AM

CBS RadioThe 1580 AM simulcast of CBS Radio/DC’s all-news WNEW-FM will become “Gov.Biz Radio 1580 AM” on 10/1. That will put it in direct competition with Hubbard’s “Federal News Radio: WFED-AM 1500 and 820 in that market.  The station will feature content from The Wall Street Journal Radio Network, Bloomberg Radio and The Hill.  Local programming will include morning driver Nancy Lyons on “The Daily Briefing” and a midday program, “The Capitol Report.”

RBR-TVBR observation: The 1580 frequency hasn’t done all that well for CBS Radio over the past few years, blowing up “The Big Talker,” “Heaven 1580” and now all-news WNEW-AM. Being on the high side of the AM dial doesn’t help the station’s overall coverage pattern—nor does it for Hubbard’s 1500 frequency.
