From April 2015 until November 2017, Andre Fernández served as President/CEO of CBS Radio. It would prove to the final time anyone would serve in such a role, as Entercom completed its Reverse Morris Trust-fueled tax-free merger with CBS Radio and began to integrate a group of stations new management lambasted as languishing under the ultimate leadership of Les Moonves.
In January 2018, Fernández officially termed out of his seat on the NAB Radio Board of Directors.
Now, he’s resurfaced by taking a big role at one of the nation’s foremost electronic transactions companies — one with roots in Dayton, Ohio.
Effective immediately, Fernández is now Chief Financial Officer for NCR Corporation. He succeeds Bob Fishman, who previously announced his forthcoming retirement.
It’s not a huge change for Fernández, who began his career on Wall Street in investment banking with Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and Merrill Lynch International in New York and London. He also enjoyed a successful 12-year career at the General Electric Co., holding CFO positions across several business units in multiple countries.
For media C-Suiters, Fernández is best-known for his role at CBS Radio, where in addition to holding full operational and P&L responsibility, he led the effort to prepare the company for a potential IPO, including cross-functional preparation of S-1 documentation, investor roadshows and debt financing.
Prior to joining CBS Radio in spring 2015, he spent 6 1/2 years as President/COO of the formal Journal Communications. From August 2004-October 2008, he was SVP/CFO of NBCUniversal’s Telemundo networks—a move made possible through his efforts at GE in Mexico City.
Fernández holds an A.B. in Economics from Harvard University.
“NCR is thrilled to have a proven leader like Andre join our team,” said NCR President/CEO Mike Hayford. “He brings strong experience in working with the investor community, handling due diligence and integration for M&A and partnering with business units to help drive operating efficiency and profitability. Andre’s unique blend of C-Level executive experience, including CEO, COO and CFO positions and background in guiding and advising business units for customer-centric and profitable growth, will be a significant advantage for NCR as we move forward.”
Fernández is currently the Vice Chairman of the Board at Froedtert Health, a $2+ billion regional healthcare system based in Wisconsin, where he is also the Chair of the Finance Committee. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Buffalo Wild Wings.
“I could not be more excited to join such an iconic company as NCR,” Fernandez said. “I look forward to working with the entire Leadership Team to advance the company’s strategic plan, work closely with our business units to enhance value for customers and shareholders, and accelerate the company’s growth trajectory.”
