Chicago FM news war heating up

Time Out Chicago blogger Rob Feder writes that CBS Radio is preparing a preemptive move as Merlin Media prepares to launch a new FM news outlet on the current WKQX-FM Chicago. According to Feder, CBS could flip underperforming “Fresh FM” WCFS-FM any day now to a simulcast of News powerhouse WBBM-AM.


“Nothing is official yet, but insiders at Newsradio 780 say plans are under way for the move (tipped here June 21) as a preemptive maneuver by the top-rated and top-billing station in the market. All that awaits is approval from New York,” Feder, the dean of Chicago media writers, said.
