Cox blows up WHDR for Soft AC WFEZ in Miami

Looks like Cox Radio/Miami is going full force against Lincoln Financial Media’s top-rated WLYF-FM there. Cox already has heritage AC WFLC-FM, “The Coast,” but has blown up (12/27) Active rocker WHDR-FM for Soft AC WFEZ (93.1 FM). EZ 93.1—Continuous Soft & Easy Favorites—is the new name and the signal keeps the Dance format on its HD2 channel. Looks like all that’s left in South Florida for the Rock format in general is Clear Channel’s Classic Rock WBGG-FM.

RBR-TVBR observation: It’s not a shocker, blowing up the rocker: WFLC was tied for 5th on the latest Arbitron list, however, WHDR was 24th in the market. Something had to be done. Obviously, the demos in South Florida lean a bit older, and this move will help target that. It’s either that or target the already well-served Hispanic, Urban and Rhythmic audiences.
