DirecTV transfer good to go

A day after getting FCC approval for News Corporation to transfer its controlling interest in DirecTV to John Malone’s Liberty Media, the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division yesterday gave its approval as well. There’s no word on when the transaction will close, swapping the stake in DirecTV and three regional sports networks for a big chunk of News Corporation stock held by Liberty. The FCC required Liberty and DirecTV to continue to abide by program access requirements and other conditions previously imposed on News Corporation to preserve competition.
