He’s had a 46-year career in radio that included roles as CBS Radio/San Francisco SVP/Market Manager from 2005 through late 2017. He was also VP/National PD for the former EZ Communications.

In May 2018, he was lured to lead Cumulus Media’s Bay Area stations.

Now, Doug Harvill is ready to conclude his career in radio broadcasting.

Harvill on Wednesday (2/3) announced his retirement, with his current role as VP/Market Manager of KGO-AM, KNBR-AM & FM, KSFO-AM & KSAN-FM “107.7 The Bone” poised to be his last.

He’ll say farewell to the industry on May 14.

It concludes an illustrious career for Harvill, who in one of his more memorable final acts brought Sports Talk KNBR to the FM dial by sunsetting longtime Adult Alternative KFOG-FM on Sept. 5, 2019.

Harvill has spent the last 24 years in radio in San Francisco.

Now, University of Maryland journalism school graduate is leaving “a wonderful and satisfying career in an industry I’ve wanted to be a part of since I was a kid.”

Harvill adds that local radio “has been and continues to be a tremendous and enriching experience, but I’ve achieved my goals and exceeded my dreams.”

And, he adds, “Whoever steps into the Market Manager role at Cumulus/San Francisco is going to inherit a tremendous team of professionals and lead some of the most legendary radio stations in broadcast history.”

That’s up to Cumulus EVP/Operations Dave Milner, who said, “Doug Harvill has had an amazing career in our industry and I was lucky to have had the opportunity to work with him these past three years. His talents run deep and he has helped so many grow and flourish in radio over the years. Congratulations, Doug – we wish you the very best in the next chapter of your life!”

At Cumulus, Harvill succeeded Justin Wittmayer.
