July 30 is the deadline by which all stations need to have their EAS decoders updated. Stations must have the new national location code programmed into their units.
The new six-zero code gives authorities the ability to send an Emergency Alert Notification or National Periodic Test nationally, or to focus an alert into a regional level.
The update also support for the new National Weather Service event codes: Extreme Wind Warning, Storm Surge Watch, and Storm Surge Warning.
