Citing “overwhelming reader and advertiser demand,” Editor & Publisher posted a notice on its website that the 125-year-old trade publication will put out one more issue. After that, it appears to be a question of whether a last minute buyer will step up to the plate.
When The Nielsen Company announced that it was selling eight trade publications to e5 Global Media LLC it also said that two not included in the sale were simply being shut down. Those were E&P and Kirkus Reviews, a trade pub for the book publishing industry.
Now E&P Editor Greg Mitchell says in an online posting that a number of outside companies and individuals have expressed an interest in keeping the trade pub for the newspaper industry operating. While they try to strike a deal with Nielsen, the staff is again posting online stories and working on one more issue. It is to be mailed to subscribers around January 4th.
“But it may still be the final issue of E&P, after 125 years,” the editor’s online note states. Staffers and readers will be waiting to see if there is a last-minute rescue.
