Muskegon low power independent WMKG-CA is getting a new owner. New York-based BAG LLC is investing $500K to serve the northwest corner of the sprawling Grand Rapids DMA.

The seller is Kelley Enterprises of Muskegon.

According to Media Services Group broker Bob Heymann, the station makes local programming an important part of its daily schedule, including things like public affairs coverage and even a bingo show.

The station operates in analog on Channel 38 and has a CP to upgrade to digital on Channel 49.

Nielsen’s full name of WMKG-CA’s DMA is Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek. The two named cities are considerably south and southeast of Grand Rapids, respectively, and Muskegon is considerably to the northwest, right on the shore of Lake Michigan, meaning that the station’s fortunes are very much tied to its city of license.
