Radio Maria reports the death of Father Duane Stenzel, who had been Director of the Catholic radio network since its founding in 2000. The priest died Tuesday (1/18) at age 83 after a long battle with a chronic blood disorder.

Stenzel entered the Franciscan order in 1945 and was ordained a priest in 1954. He became involved in radio in 2000 when Radio Maria Italia, a worldwide catholic radio network, provided funding to start the US network. Based in Alexandria, LA, it now programs 10 stations in six states and airs some of its programming in the New York City market as well.

The wake for Father Stenzel will be Wednesday (1/19) at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Alexandria, with a funeral mass at the cathedral on Thursday.
