The FCC’s Deputy Chief of the Enforcement Bureau, who previously served as Acting Bureau Chief for five months, has been selected by FCC Chairman Ajit Pai to serve as Special Counsel at the Commission.

Michael Carowitz joins the Office of the Chairman following Nick Degani’s departure to serve as Acting General Counsel.

As Special Counsel, Carowitz will advise Chairman Pai on a wide range of issues.

“I’m pleased that Michael has agreed to bring his breadth of experience to our office,” said Pai.  “He is truly the Swiss Army knife of the FCC, having served in leadership roles across the Commission.  We have all come to rely on his sharp counsel.”

From 2013 until January 2017, Carowitz was Deputy Chief of the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau.  Prior to that, he served as Associate Chief/Chief of Staff of the Commission’s Enforcement Bureau.
