FOX takes easy win Wednesday w/ 'American Idol'

With a two-hour installment of AMERICAN IDOL, FOX won last night across the board and out-rated the combined Wednesday 4-net competition for the night by +3% in the adult demo (7.9 vs. 7.7 for ABC/CBS/NBC/CW).                              


FOX beat nearest competitor for the night by +163% among A18-49 (7.9 vs. 3.0 for CBS) and +97% in Total Viewers (22.6 vs. CBS’ 11.5 Mil.)                             

AMERICAN IDOL: Posted a 7.9/21, retaining 96% of last Wednesday’s audience among Adults 18-49 and 97% in Total Viewers (22.6 Mil).        
             
IDOL was the highest rated program of the night in all key demos and beat the next highest rated program by +93% in A18-49 (7.9 vs. Modern Family’s 4.1) and +69% in Total Viewers (22.6 vs. Criminal Minds, 13.4 Mil.)  

AMERICAN IDOL outperformed last Thursday’s episode by +4% in A18-49 and +2% in total viewers                       
 
Compared to the comparable date last year (2/24/10), IDOL retained 91% of its A18-49 audience (vs. 8.7) and 98% of its Total Viewers (vs. 23.0 Mil).

Last night’s IDOL showed significant growth last night, up +25% in A18-49 and +18% in Total Viewers in its last half hour versus its first by                          

Season to date, IDOL is closing the gap versus last season, now down only -9% from last year’s A18-49 and only -4% in Total Viewers.

Competition

On ABC, The Middle (2.4/7, up +4%) was on the low side at 8p, while Better With You (1.8/5, flat) matched its lowest original rating of the season at 830p, dropping -22% from its prior original average (2.3/6).

Modern Family (4.1/11) dropped -5% to its season low. Week three of new comedy Mr. Sunshine (2.4/6) posted its lowest rating to date at 930p, dropping -11% from last week and showing week-to-week losses with every episode on the air (3.7 > 2.6 > 2.4).

Off The Map (1.7/5) was up +13% from last week but down -11% from its prior average (1.9/5) at 10p.

CBS’s Survivor: Redemption Island (3.3/9) increased +3% from last week’s franchise-low premiere and after two weeks remains off to its lowest rated start ever.

Criminal Minds followed with an 3.4/9, up +6%. At 10p, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2.5/7) dropped -24% from its series debut last week (3.3/10).

Following Minute to Win It (1.2/3, up +20%) at 8p, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU (2.5/7) gained +14% at 10p.
