There’s a new top attorney at Sinclair Broadcast Group.
That’s because the TV station owner’s General Counsel is stepping down to focus on his other duties in distribution and network relations, via a promotion he’s getting.
Now serving as President/Distribution & Network Relations at Sinclair is Barry Faber, who had been EVP/General Counsel and Distribution & Network Relations.
Who is taking Faber’s former legal role? It is going to David Gibber, who rises from VP/Deputy General Counsel to SVP/General Counsel.
Commenting on the moves, Sinclair President/CEO Chris Ripley said, “Barry has done a tremendous job as Sinclair’s General Counsel for the past twenty years, while also overseeing all aspects of the distribution of our content and the vital relationships with the networks with which our stations are affiliated.”
Faber was also “a driving force,” Ripley said, “in the industry’s successful efforts to be paid for its content under the retransmission consent regime.”
Distribution now represents close to 50% of all of Sinclair’s revenue, he added.
With a new regional sports network formed with the Chicago Cubs, and the
emergence of virtual and over-the-top streaming services, how these platforms can benefit Sinclair in the future has become a top priority for Sinclair. “We believe Barry is the perfect person to oversee this, given his successful history in working with our network and distribution partners,” Ripley said.
“I am very pleased to be making this change,” said Faber. “I look forward to continuing to work with our many valued partners on both the distribution and content sides of the business as we work to take full advantage of the numerous existing and emerging opportunities to distribute content. I look forward to being in a position to give my full attention to these vital aspects of Sinclair’s business.”
Gibber noted, “Since joining Sinclair I have been fortunate to work alongside the many
accomplished leaders in the Company and a top-notch legal staff in implementing our
Company’s strategy in a wide range of areas including operations, developing businesses and industry initiatives.”
Gibber joined Sinclair in 2011 and has served as Vice President/Deputy General Counsel,
Deputy General Counsel/Director of Legal Services and Legal Counsel. Prior to joining
Sinclair, he was an associate at Gordon Feinblatt in Baltimore.
