Dr. Sanjay Gupta is not only a practicing brain surgeon, he is also frequently seen on CBS and CNN discussing medical issues. He is now getting a gig in the Obama administration, where he has been nominated to serve as Surgeon General.
RBR/TVBR observation: Conventional wisdom has it that this is a clear indication that Obama plans to move aggressively on health care issues. Gupta’s medical credentials are in order, which is a prerequisite for the job, but his media savvy and communications skills are what sealed the deal – he is expected to have a major role in selling Obama’s health package.
