Has The FCC Been ‘Catfished’ On ZoneCasting?

The NAB has told the FCC that a proposed rulemaking that would allow FM booster stations to originate programming on a limited basis — key to the “ZoneCasting” product offering from GeoBroadcast Solutions that seeks to hyperlocalize radio while giving markets an addressable advertising solution — must be rejected.

The 27-page comment filing from the NAB legal team led by Chief Legal Officer and EVP/ Legal and Regulatory Affairs Rick Kaplan is nothing short than a verbal assault on GBS, claiming neither of its tests near Jackson, Miss., and San Jose, Calif., demonstrate that ZoneCasting is “technically sound.”
