iBiquity announces multicast channel incentive program

0

iBiquity Digital is offering cash incentives to reward radio AEs and SMs that use the HD Radio HD2/HD3 multicast channels in their clients’ on-air ad campaigns. Some examples of possible entries include NTR events, campaigns exclusively on the HD Radio channel, or campaigns that combine all digital assets of on-air, website, and HD2/HD3 channels.

Joe D’Angelo, iBiquity SVP/Broadcast Programs and Advanced Services, said the goal is to influence more stations to bundle their digital assets: “HD2/HD3 Channels are becoming increasingly prevalent in the ratings and now is the time to market the unique benefits they offer to advertisers.”

Sales teams can submit their campaign details using HD2/HD3 channels at hdradioalliance.com between 6/15 and 8/15. There are three reward levels: A grand prize of $5,000 cash, followed by $1,000 for second place, with the third place winner receiving a total HD Radio upgrade for car, home, and on the go. The panel of judges includes John Potter, Vice President/Training at the RAB, Mark Turley, Director of Corporate Media Sales for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Diane Warren, President of the HD Radio Alliance. Prizes will be awarded at the Radio Show in September.

RBR-TVBR observation: We suggest that the stations and/or AEs might want to include deals they’ve made to broker the channels out completely to foreign language broadcasters or other entities, as that is being done as well. This practice is good for the broadcasters but might not be so good for HD Radio as an industry down the road—when someone goes out and buys a new HD Radio and finds too many stations that aren’t playing what they expected, they just might return it.
