Infinity Broadcasting Buys An AM

Say what?! No, we’re not talking about the company that made Howard Stern an internationally known “shock jock” run by Mel Karmazin.

Rather, this Infinity is headquartered in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and it is acquiring “Radio One.” The buyer knows the station all too well: She’s the host of the 7am hour each weekday.

Alma Francis and her Infinity Broadcasting LLC is agreeing to purchase WVWI-AM 1000 “Radio One” on St. Thomas from Ackley Media Group.

Radio One is a spoken word station loosely modeled after CBC Radio 1 in Canada, and other nations where government-funded radio stations offering news and commentary shows were the “first” service in the nation.

In the case of WVWI, its Class B 5kw daytime/1kw nighttime signal targets those across the USVI with a target age of adults 25-60.

The deal makes Francis a first-time owner, and she’s purchasing Radio One for $160,000.  A $10,000 good faith deposit has been made to Ackley. The remainder will be represented by a Promissory Note accruing interest of 5% per year. A $2,120.09 monthly payment is due to Ackley.

Serving as Ackley’s legal counsel: John Garziglia of Womble Bond Dickinson.
