Joe Uva has big plans for Univision

Being the #1 Spanish television network in the USA isn’t enough for Univision Communications CEO Joe Uva. He’s out to beat the English networks as well. And he’s not kidding.

As Univision reported its financial results, with TV revenues up 16.7% in 2010, Uva also bragged to analysts about ratings growth.

“I’m pleased to report that the Univision network gained on competitors in the quarter as the only major broadcast network to achieve year-over-year audience growth in primetime among both adults 18-49 and adults 18-34,” Uva said. “And our growth wasn’t insignificant: 13% among adults 18-49 and 11% among adults 18-34,” he added.

“Univision also broke records during the quarter with ‘Soy Tu Dueña’ becoming the top rated novela in US television history. In addition, Univision continued to increase the number of nights it ranks as the number one broadcast network in the country in primetime and maintained its number one network ranking on Friday nights for the third consecutive quarter among key adult demographics,” Uva told Wall Street.

“It’s results like these that make us confident in saying that we can be the number one network in the country, regardless of language, in five years,” the CEO declared.

RBR-TVBR observation: Not only is Univision building the popularity of its programs, but Uva also has the US Census working in his company’s favor. He is not shy about predicting another big Upfront.
