A Hubbard Broadcasting Country station’s morning show has a feature devoted to it. Memes and internet stories refer to it regularly, too.
The “Florida Man” and its regular use in stories highlighting some of the Sunshine State’s random acts of stupidity led John Caracciolo and his JVC Media to brand his company’s Hot Talk stations targeting male listeners “Florida Man Radio.”
Now, JVC is spinning one of these stations — an FM serving the market that’s home to the University of Florida.
JVC is selling WYGC-FM 104.9 in High Springs, Fla., to Hitmaker Music Group. It is a Class A FM, and reaches the Gainesville area; it cannot reach Ocala, the southern portion of the oddly constructed Gainesville-Ocala market.
WYGC has been simulcasting JVC’s WDYZ-AM in Orlando since November 2019, and before that was a ’80s-sounding Classic CHR under the “Y105” branding — a homage to the former WHLY “Y106” circa 1986.
What does the future hold for WYGC? It will become a sibling to WGGG-AM & WMOP-AM in Gainesville, plus W221DX in Gainesville. They air “Florida Sports Talk” as “The Goat,” and it is expected that WYGC will join the network.
For JVC, it is earning $350,000 from the sale of WYGC. A $25,000 escrow deposit is being held by Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth in Arlington, Va.
The buyer’s group is led by Anthony Bucher.
