Mitten Sews Up Another Station In Michigan

In April, a Class A FM in a mid-sized Michigan market was involved in a deal that involved a pair of Mittens. Specifically, an entity named Mitten News LLC was the buyer.

Now, this company is adding another station in this market to its knitting box.

Mitten News LLC is the licensee of WJML-AM in Petoskey, WJNL-AM in Kingsley, and FM translator W266CS in Traverse City, and on April 11 agreed to acquire WWMN-FM 106.3 from Mitten Media LLC, an entity led by Todd Mohr, for $275,000.

Mitten News LLC is wholly owned by John Yob, and it is also the proposed assignee of WYPV-FM 94.5 in Mackinaw, Mich., a Class C2 offering a Talk format under the brand “Patriot Voice.”

That’s an important link to the latest deal that Yob has struck, as his Mitten News is acquiring Class D WHAK-AM 960 in Rogers City, Mich. — a facility with 5kw during daylight hours and 136 watts at night from 1 tower.

The signal covers areas east of Petoskey, and Mackinac Island.

The seller of WHAK is Edwards Communications, led by Managing Member Jerry Edwards.

The price: It’s a bargain, at $12,000.

Edwards will retain ownership of five other Michigan stations. The company also owns five stations in Wyoming.
