Johnston County’s Country Superstars Sail to Curtis

Donald W. Curtis is widely known across the Carolinas for his Raleigh-based Curtis Media Group, a marketing company powered by some 62 AM and FM radio stations.

Pending FCC approval, you can add an FM to that stable of signals, as Curtis has signed off on an asset purchase agreement that gives a Curtis-led licensee ownership of the home of “Johnston County’s Country Superstars.”

Triangle Marketing Associates, led by Richard Heimann Sr., has agreed to sell Class A WKJO-FM 102.3 in Smithfield, N.C., to the southeast of Raleigh, to Curtis’ FM 102.3 LLC.

The deal is valued at $2,080,000.

There is no broker or finder associated with the transaction, which sees Coe Ramsey of Brooks Pierce serve as the seller’s legal counsel.

Terms call for the deal to include WKJO equipment that includes the following:

™ Nautel 7.5KW FM Transmitter
™ Harris 3.5KW Transmitter
™ ERI 3-bay FM Antenna
™ Dummy Load/Switches/Coax Cables
™ Generator and Transfer Switch
™ Harris Intraplex
™ Burke Remote Control
™ Orban Processor
™ Comrex STL (Backup)

The transaction also includes the intellectual property associated with WKJO. This signals that Curtis will likely continue the “Country Superstars” C&W Gold format airing on the station.
