London adds a market, leaves a crater

NBC KCEN-TV Temple TX and its sidekick KMAY-LP Bryan TX, part of the Waco-Temple-Bryan DMA, are going to a new owner. Terry London’s London Broadcasting Company is getting them from Channel 6 Inc., headed by Anyse Sue Mayborn. CobbCorp represented the seller in the $26M deal. London already owns KYTX-TV in the Tyler-Longview DMA.

The application filed with the FCC contained more interesting information. It would have had to file an explanation on how it planned to shimmy two Waco TVs under the local caps, since it had an acquisition for one pending as part of a four-market, five station deal. It said that deal was FCC-approved but would not be consummated.

The other deal, filed 7/2/08, would have sent KXXV-TV Waco-Temple-Bryan, KSWO-TV Lawton OK-Wichita Falls TX, KFDA-TV Amarillo TX and KWES-TV/KWAB-TV Midland-Odessa TX from Drewry Communications for $115M.
