A Brand That Sees The Upside Of Radio

“People earn cash back, businesses make more.”

That’s the basic premise behind a brand that has sought to grow its national profile by promoting its services via Spot Radio. And, the latest Media Monitors Spot Ten Radio report shows, this brand has emerged as one of the more exciting new users of AM and FM radio for its marketing efforts.

Introducing GetUpside, a free app for cash back at grocery stores, gas stations and restaurants.

How does it work? GetUpside partners with these types of local businesses — for now —who seek to grow their retail traffic with “great offers you’ll never get anywhere else.”

Among the partners Upside Services currently works with are Dunkin’, Popeyes, Burger King, Shell, BP, Marathon, Valero and Hispanic-targeted supermarket chain Cardenas.

Circle K, a user of spot radio in its own right this week, is also partnering with GetUpside.

For those that join GetUpside, savings of up to 25 cents per gallon on gasoline can be had. For meals, some 35% cash back is an enticement for consumers to sign up.

To save, a consumer is asked to download an app, and on the app claim a particular offer. They pay as usual, and then either check in on the app or scan receipts as directed. Then, cash back is earned.

Upside Services’ headquarters is on Rhode Island Ave. and 17th Street NW in Washington, two blocks from the NAB’s current home.

And, for the week ending October 10, Upside Services was the leader among fully paid advertisers using Spot Radio. Some 56,329 spot plays were accounted for during the week, putting it ahead of DuckDuckGo.

That’s the internet search engine that, in its words, “emphasizes protecting searchers’ privacy and avoiding the filter bubble of personalized search results.”
