MMTC petitions for expanded ad nondiscrimination

In the broadcasting world, the FCC has taken steps to ban the practice of no-Urban dictates, no-Hispanic dictates and other such arrangements that tend to scrape such stations. The Minority Media and Telecommunications Council is asking that the rules be extended to cover cable, satellite and multi-channel telecommunications outlets that come under the FCC’s regulatory purview. “A rulemaking proceeding should be initiated promptly to ensure an equal footing for all services in the fight against advertising discrimination.”

RBR/TVBR observation: It’s easy to forget that a rule applying to one medium doesn’t necessarily translate to another; no matter how closely related it may be. MMTC – and broadcasters – would both benefit from a level playing field. We therefore wholeheartedly support this initiative.
