Mobile video deal includes three US studios

Want to watch US television shows on a hand-held video device? Go to Singapore. Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) announced a “groundbreaking” deal with three major US studios to have its mio TV service carry over 50 US TV series, with some airing as early as 24 hours after their US premiere. SingTel’s content deals are with Disney-ABC International Television, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. mio TV will offer the latest seasons of popular American TV series debuting in September, such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost, ” “Criminal Minds,” “Prison Break, ” “Bones,” “24,” “Ugly Betty,” “Without a Trace,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “Supernatural,” “Samantha Who“ and many more.


The deal was announced as SingTel was marking the first anniversary of its mio service. “Consumers are getting increasingly demanding.  They want to get the latest TV hits ahead of anyone else and mio TV is filling this gap with this latest offering.  We see this as the next big wave of content consumption in Singapore,” said Allen Lew, SingTel’s CEO Singapore.

The subscription service begins as low as 9.99 Singapore dollars (US$7.34) per month for an introductory plan including 10 popular US television series. RBR/TVBR found on the service’s website that current pay-per-view selections are generally a half Singapore dollar (US$0.37) for each 10 minutes. Pricing has not yet been announced for the Season Pass plan, launching in September with the full range of US programming.
