More support for Class A proposal

The Coalition for Local Television was joined by over 150 Class A television station licensees in signing a petition asking the FCC to go ahead with plans to grant cable must-carry status to the stations. The group cited the local focus of the stations, and noted the many types of niche programming they provide, “…including religious, community, government access, Spanish language, African American, Korean, South Asian, local news, sports, children’s and educational programming, and critical weather and emergency advisories.”

RBR/TVBR observation: A proposal right down a Democrat’s alley, that came from a Republican, would seem to have a lot of steam behind it. We suspect this will get through the FCC – cable interests, however, may seek to block it elsewhere.
