Nexstar’s Topeka Twins Get a New Leader

There’s a new individual in charge of the day-to-day operations at a pair of Nexstar Media Group TV stations in market No. 142 — a role that also involves management of Vaughn Media’s dual ABC/The CW affiliate serving Kansas’ state capital.

Earning the role is James Baronet, who will serve as VP/GM of Topeka-based NBC affiliate KSNT-27 and FOX affiliate KTMJ-43, the Nexstar-owned stations, and shared services partner KTKA-49.

Baronet reports to Nexstar Media SVP/Regional Manager Julie Pruett. He brings nearly 20 years of broadcast programming, sales, and marketing leadership experience to his new post.

“Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated the ability to grow revenue and
profitability by identifying new streams of revenue, cultivating new business, developing a variety of innovative cross-platform solutions for advertisers and marketers, creating sponsorship opportunities, and deepening the ties to the communities in which he has worked,” Nexstar notes.

Since 2016, Baronet has served as the General Manager of Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned FOX affiliate KSAS-24 in Wichita. For two years prior to that role, he was VP/GM of Nexstar-owned WGMB-TV & WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge.

“Jim’s proven leadership experience as a broadcast executive, coupled with his lengthy track record of success at Nexstar and his familiarity with Kansas and its two major television markets make him the perfect candidate,” Pruett said. “Jim has grown broadcast and digital revenues, expanded local programming and developed non-traditional revenue streams and new business opportunities throughout his career. He has consistently built highly successful sales teams who deliver innovative marketing solutions that generate positive results for local and national advertisers. We’re proud to welcome Jim back to Nexstar and we look forward to celebrating his continued success.”
