CULVER CITY, CALIF. — After “an extensive national search,” NPR has selected what it calls “an experienced media professional” to help drive the strategic direction of its broadcast programming (beyond the newsmagazines).

Taking the role of Senior Director of Broadcast Programming Strategy, effective June 6, is Sal LoCurto.

In addition to working collaboratively with divisions across NPR “to drive broadcast initiatives and support strong partnerships with third-party broadcast and podcast producers,” LoCurto will lead a core team devoted to supporting NPR Network initiatives. NPR adds that Locurto “will also help to build clear and systematic communication channels with our partners,” in collaboration with NPR’s Member Partnership team.

He will be based in Los Angeles.

LoCurto was formerly Program Director for the lead NPR Member station in Southern California, all spoken-word KPCC-FM in Pasadena, Calif.

Before that, LoCurto served as Sr. VP Program Development and Original Series at fuse TV. Earlier in his career, he held various positions at Universal Studios, Warner Bros. and MTV Networks, respectively.
