The Baltimore Orioles and Hearst Broadcasting’s WBAL-AM have signed a new multi-year deal to renew as the club’s flagship. WBAL will air 10 spring training games and all 162 regular season games. Joe Angel and Fred Manfra will continue to voice play-by-play.
The partnership marks the 42nd year since Baltimore returned to the major leagues 57 years ago that the station has originated Orioles broadcasts. Orioles games were most recently heard on WBAL 2006. The station first aired O’s games in 1957, the club’s fourth season.
WBAL VP/GM Ed Kiernan noted with a with the station’s 50,000-watt signal, they can blanket the East Coast: “Now, all of the great teams of the American League’s Eastern Division — the Yankees, the Red Sox and the Orioles will be heard on the AM dial.”
WBAL will also launch a new Orioles “On Deck” show hosted by Brett Hollander to be heard prior to the games. Hollander will also broadcast his nightly sports program live from Florida for two weeks in each of the three seasons.
