WGN-AM 720WGN-AM PD and News Director Bill White is out, pretty much with the same timing as Jimmy deCastro’s entry as the new GM at the station. White had been with the radio station since 2/11.

White himself made the announcement in an email to the WGN Radio staff, reported Chicagoland Radio and Media: “Today is my last day as Director of Programming & News of WGN Radio. Having the opportunity to work with such a tremendous team at one of America’s legendary radio station has been a privilege and an honor. I wish you and WGN Radio much success in the future.”

Tribune Broadcasting and former WGN Radio VP/GM Tom Langmyer hired Bill White to replace the controversial PD Kevin Metheny, who had been fired two months earlier.

White worked for the station while its parent Tribune was in bankruptcy and asking for corners to be cut.

de Castro also sent a memo out to WGN-AM staffers: “Sometimes managers have to make difficult decisions on behalf of a few to build a brighter future for many. Today, we are losing the services of a friend and delightful professional, Bill White. Please join me in wishing him the best in his future endeavors.”

WSCR-AM PD Mitch Rosen has been rumored as a possible replacement for White.
