From Imbéry in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, is Class B WBQN-AM 1160, which has a signal covering all of Puerto Rico.
It is being sold by Radio Borinquen and its owners, Luis Rivera Caban and Angel Rivera Caban.
The buyer is Wilfredo Blanco-Pi, who made headlines several years ago for his quest for the continued use of three experimental AM booster stations used to fill gaps in coverage areas. Blanco-Pi was unsuccessful in his efforts.
He’s paying $150,000 for WBQN, and the right to construct a FM translator at 92.1 MHz.
A $30,000 escrow payment has been made.
The remainder will be paid by check.
Equipment includes a Harris SX-5E transmitter with 5kw, and a three-tower phaser from Kintronics.
WBQN is currently operating with reduced power of 1,500 watts under a STA.
