Shack attack

Radio Shack reported a highly positive Q3 2008 in the face of the strongly negative economic headwinds we are all too acutely aware of. Same store revenues were up 7.7%, and the top line improvement took revenues from $46.3M in Q3 2007 to $50.2M this go-around. Selling back-to-school laptops accounted for part of the bounty. But the good news for the FCC and NTIA is that a large part of the uptick was fueled by the sale of digital-to-analog set-top converter boxes.

RBR/TVBR observation: Of course, it will be virtually impossible to duplicate sales in the converter box category in Q3 2009, but it does indicate that American consumers are getting the message about the DTV conversion.
