Silence Without OTA Results In Reduced FM Translator Fine

Among the many translators in the nation’s third-largest market is a 17-watt facility atop the John Hancock Tower. Its licensee made headlines in mid-March because the FCC handed it a proposed $8,000 fine for ceasing broadcasts without permission.


Audio Division Chief Al Shuldiner has reviewed the matter, after the licensee noted it is suffering from financial hardship. The result: A lower penalty, but a fine nevertheless.
