The number of audio-only FCC broadcast licenses is on the upswing, while the video categories are losing steam, according to a comparison of the FCC license census for the ends of the first and second quarters.
A 218-stick decrease in the total number of TV translators dragged the total broadcast station down with it, dropping by 14 stations quarter to quarter to 29,690.
All radio categories registered increases, including a pair of additional AMs, 119 new FMs, 113 new translators and 11 more LPFMs. Full power television decreased by two, Class As were down five, and LPTVs decreased by 35.
